Why Hard Hat Healthcare

Most healthcare is not built for men who work with their bodies. This one is.

You maintain your truck. You maintain your tools.

Most men never apply that same logic to their body, which is running all of it.

The gear that makes your work possible gets regular attention because you know what happens when it doesn't. The guys who stay in the game longest are the ones who treat maintenance as routine, not emergency. It’s why you don’t skip oil changes.

Your body works the same way. The shoulder that's been nagging for eight months. The back that tightens up by Thursday. The sleep that no longer feels restorative. These are patterns, and patterns respond to treatment.

Most acupuncture clinics weren't built for you.

The hours run from 9 to 5. The intake language sounds like a spa brochure. The marketing targets a different kind of patient entirely, and you know it the moment you land on the page.

Hard Hat Healthcare exists for one specific reason: working men in trades, construction, warehouse, and first response carry real physical load, have benefits covering most of the cost, and deserve a clinic that was actually built for them.

Evening appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 8 pm are there by design. You shouldn't have to burn half a sick day to deal with a shoulder that's been bothering you for six months.

What shows up here.

The conditions that physically demanding work creates over time:

  • Chronic back pain, lower and upper
  • Shoulder injuries, rotator cuff strain, frozen shoulder
  • Knee and hip pain, joint stiffness
  • Repetitive strain from physical labour
  • Neck tension and headaches
  • Sleep that doesn't refresh you
  • Fatigue that has become the baseline
  • Motor vehicle accident rehabilitation (ICBC patients welcome)

Dr. Peter Wood, DTCM, has 20 years of clinical practice and a background in Human Kinetics before he became a TCM practitioner. He understands bodies that carry load. The approach is pattern-based, not symptom-chasing: finding what's actually generating the problem, not just managing it session to session.

Your benefits are probably covering most of it.

Most extended health plans in BC include $500 per year in acupuncture coverage, separate from your massage and physiotherapy caps. That money exists. It's likely sitting unused right now.

With standard 80% coverage, a subsequent treatment runs about $24 out of pocket. An initial consultation is about $28. ICBC covers motor vehicle accident treatment at $7 per session.

The coverage is there. The evening appointments are there. The free 15-minute consult is there if you want to ask questions first before committing to anything.

The framing is maintenance.

Not crisis management. Not wellness culture. Not a retreat.

Maintenance: keeping the body functional so it can keep doing what you need it to do. The same logic you already apply to everything else that matters.

The practitioner behind this.

Dr. Peter Wood, DTCM, holds a Doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine and spent his undergraduate years studying Human Kinetics before entering clinical practice. He has been treating patients for over 20 years, has served as President of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of BC, and is registered with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of BC. His clinical career has been built around people who use their bodies for a living. Not rehabilitation patients in general, working men specifically, and the patterns that physical labour creates in the body over time.
